REACH Alert

Residents,
We understand the importance of communicating with you and ensuring that we keep you in the loop regarding events affecting the City of St. Regis Park. As a result, we are pleased to announce that we are initiating a new notification service called REACH Alert.

This new service will allow us to immediately share important information regarding a number of items, including waterline breaks/boil water advisories, power outages, road closures/delays due to construction or accidents, hazmat situations, AMBER/Silver alerts, police actions, and civic events.

As good as this service is, if you don’t register, we can’t share important information with you. You decide if you want a text message, voice call, or an email. Each household can register up to 4 phone numbers and 4 email addresses. All you need to do is:

1. Go to www.reachalert.com and click on MY ACCOUNT.
2. Select CREATE ACCOUNT.
3. Follow the prompts and enter your preferred contact information.
4. Network Name: type St. Regis Park (click on our name when it appears).
5. Select Resident
6. Enter your address and click on it when it appears in the drop-down list.

October Mayor Report

Dear Citizens:

I hope this finds all of you doing well. We had another productive meeting last night. The first order of business accomplished was agreeing on a new city engineer. Mark Madison with Milestone
design group will be helping us with all foreseeable projects. Some immediate work that Mark will be doing for us is looking at all of our roads and making recommendations on repairs and preventative maintenance. Also, Mark will be helping us with our new signage. Last, but not least, Mark will be coordinating with MSD to make sure a project they will be working on later this fall in St. Regis is done to our expectations.

Next, we had a concerned citizen attend the meeting that said they would like to have more communication within the city. After a joint brainstorming, it was decided that we will be adding a service called REACH Alert. The City of Hurstbourne and the City of Anchorage are already using it. As a city, we will be able to send alerts as text messages, voice calls, emails, or all of the above simultaneously. This will make sure that even if someone doesn’t have a cell phone or the internet (i.e. Facebook, emails, etc.) they will still be notified of events. This is all in addition to the newsletter, of course. We see this service being used to remind people of community activities, impending snow storms (reminders to not park on the street), crime information, etc. One of the great things about the program is that there may be 4 users per address (whether the user lives in the home or not). This is an added benefit for adult children who don’t live
in the city and want to stay informed for the sake of their parents who are still residents here. For more information, please visit reachalert.com. In order to get started today, please see the attached flyer with instructions.

Also in regards to better communication, if you are new to the city or have never signed up for our block watch emails, please do so by emailing Councilwoman Cheryl Willett at stregispark@gmail.com.

Louisville Councilwoman Marilyn Parker and I met to discuss the amount of traffic on Browns Ln. during the early morning hours. She was able to see first hand how difficult it is for St. Regis Park residents to turn right, let alone turn left, on to Browns Ln and the resulting back up of traffic on Mt. Vernon, Dannywood, Lincoln, and St. Regis Lane. As a result, she has already had the traffic light at Browns Ln./ McMahan/Lowe delayed a little bit longer to provide more “gaps” between cars for safer entrance on to Browns Ln. for our residents. So, thank you
Councilwoman Marilyn Parker for your quick response.

Lastly, the City Council has decided to not proceed with any survey to residents regarding Speed Humps at this time. If a motion is made on the subject, a vote will take place accordingly.

Remember, the City of St. Regis Park is a great place to live. Together, we will make it even better!

Sincerely,
Brandt Davis, Mayor

September Mayor Report

Dear Citizens:

It is that time of year when students return to school and the grass doesn’t seem to grow as fast. Soon, we will all start enjoying fall sports, chili and cooler weather. As Ascension and Greathouse resume, I have asked for our contracted police to really focus on speeding that occurs in our city. They will be concentrating on writing tickets and not giving warnings. I would ask you to remind friends and family that live in and frequent the neighborhood to be mindful of their speed.

We had a very, very productive council meeting when we discussed speed humps and other ideas that could curtail speeding and increase the safety of our neighborhood. About 35-40 citizens showed up and everyone had a chance to speak. At the September council meeting we plan on creating a survey to make sure each of our citizens’ voices are heard, especially citizens most affected by the speeding.

In addition to speeding, we have had a rash of break-ins, mainly involving cars. However, alarmingly, we did have a couple of home break-ins. I would ask all citizens to make sure that their car/garage/ home doors are all locked and that they leave plenty of outside lights on at night. I would also encourage everyone to consider contacting a home security company to get quotes on a home security system. This is a best practice. The city is and will continue to make sure we are doing our part in making sure everyone is safe. However, we want to make sure each homeowner is discouraging would-be burglars as much as possible on their end. Security systems go a long way in doing just that.

While the city has accomplished a great deal, there is still much to do. Over the next couple of weeks, we plan on tackling many projects including some of the following: painting the yellow curbs, interviewing engineering firms to replace our previous city engineer, finalizing a plan for new city signage and interviewing potentially new contracted police groups.

Remember, the City of St. Regis Park is a great place to live. Together, we will make it even better!

Sincerely,
Brandt Davis, Mayor

August Mayor Report

Dear Citizens:

I hope this finds all of you doing well. It is hard to believe that summer is halfway over and that schools start next month. I hope all of you have enjoyed family, friends, and neighbors during this great time of year.

Since school will be starting, that means there will be increased traffic in our city. This brings up a topic that the council hears about regularly –SPEEDING THAT TAKES PLACE IN OUR CITY. Councilman Jeff Weis will be presenting a motion at the August meeting to install two (2) speed humps in the 4300 blocks of St. Regis Lane, Lincoln Road, Dannywood Road, Mount Vernon Road and Foxy Poise Road, near the Lynnbrook Drive intersection. I highly encourage residents to contact Mr. Weis or attend the August meeting to discuss their opinions and the pros and cons regarding the installation of speed humps.

I would like to thank Councilman Louie Schweickhardt for overseeing the US Flags that were put out this year (and every year) for the 4th of July. It is a great way to celebrate the holiday, be reminded of our independence, and it makes the city look beautiful. The following people were big contributors to helping Councilman Schweickhardt put out the flags: Bud and Judy Campbell; Jason, Laura, Avery and Aiden Lewis; Joe, Terri, John, and Samantha Bowling; Mary Hammer; Kelly and Sam Schweickhardt. Again, thank you to all who participated.

The tree board has now completed their Spring planting season. That means that the City has now planted 210 trees!!!! That is simply amazing. I would still encourage us all to keep moving forward on this initiative. As I mow my yard, I am reminded weekly of the lack of tree canopy we have. Even though I have planted a tree in my yard, it still obviously takes a while to get to the size where it can create a lot of shade. As I drive the city, I still see plenty of yards that could use a new tree or tree maintenance in order for our great city to remain “park-like.” The tree board is also asking everyone to keep their new trees watered, even if they are a few years old. With this extremely hot weather, it is vital.

Angela Leet, the Republican candidate for Mayor of Louisville, will be attending our August meeting.

Last, but not least, the General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. All seven (7) City Council seats and the Mayor position will be on the ballot. I have informed the council that I will be running for Mayor one last time. Council Members are elected every two (2) years and the Mayor is elected every four (4) years. Candidates must file their forms at the Jefferson County Election Center no later than 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2018. For information on candidate filing procedures, qualifications for the office, filing fees and sample filing forms, you may call the Jefferson County Election Center at 502-574-5886 or 502-574-5889 or download the “Declaring Your Candidacy” publication at www.sos.ky.gov/elections. The ordinance requirements for a person to be qualified to run for office are the following: 18 years of age; Qualified to vote in the city; Lived in St Regis Park for more than 1 year; and Must reside in St. Regis Park throughout their term.

The City of St. Regis Park is a great place to live. Together, we will make it even better!

Sincerely,
Brandt Davis, Mayor
