Re-Tree the Park!

At the February and March City Council meetings, the Council voted to purchase 30 trees for planting in the front or side yards of St. Regis Park residences this Spring to Re-Tree the Park!

Our city arborist has negotiated a great deal for 2-3 inch caliper trees that will be professionally planted and mulched. Although the trees will be distributed through a lottery, first priority will go to homes that do not have a significant tree in their front or visible side yards, beginning with those who applied for the free Wallitsch donated trees but were not selected. The arborist will work with the homeowners to make the final decision as to the location of the tree and will also recommend the species for the homeowner to select for planting.

Deadline: Noon, March 31st

Tree Board

The City of St. Regis Park is considering the establishment of a Tree Board which would consist of no more than five (5) voting members, but not less than three (3). The members would be appointed by the Mayor, with the consent and approval of the City Council, for staggered, three year terms. The Tree Board members would serve without compensation and attend regularly scheduled meetings to be held at least quarterly.

The Tree Board would study, develop, update annually and administer a written Annual Tree Work Plan , the cost of implementation of which would be within an annual budget submitted and approved by the St. Regis Park City Council as part of its annual budget cycle each year.

The plan would address species diversity, planting needs, hazardous trees, insect and disease problems, preservation, pruning, planting, replanting, removal of trees and shrubs along streets and other public areas and a pattern of regular care such as pruning and watering. This plan would be presented annually to the City Council for their review, acceptance and approval. Additional assignments may be made by the City Council to research, investigate, consider, and make findings and report upon any other matters in relation to trees and tree preservation.

Interested applicants are encouraged to submit a brief resume to the City of St. Regis Park by email or first class mail no later than December 31, 2013. Email
should be sent to: cityofstregispark@mcmahanfire.com

Rental Property Ordinance

The council and I are discussing a rental property ordinance that I proposed. Before we have a second reading and vote on the ordinance, we would like to make sure we have feedback from anyone who would like to offer it.

The purpose of the ordinance is to make sure we have the proper contact information of the owner or manager of the property and to make sure the property is maintained to SRP standards. The proposed ordinance will be in the January newsletter. If you have any feedback, please email the city at cityofstregispark@mcmahanfire.com or call SRP City Hall at 491-7777 and leave a message.

Thanks, Mayor Brandt Davis
